1221-ben Sumptey néven említik először. Klasszicista Eszterházy-kastélya az egykori vízivár helyén áll. A 12. században épült a Vág völgyének védelmére, királyi vár volt. 1703. november 29-én a kurucok elfoglalták. A falakat a 18.- 19. században bontották le. A kastély a Vág szabályozása miatt Szered területére került. 1910-ben 2140, többségben szlovák lakosa volt, jelentős magyar kisebbséggel. A trianoni békeszerződésig Nyitra vármegye Vágsellyei járásához tartozott.

Schloss Šintava

The castle is first time mentioned in a document from 1177. The medieval castle was rebuilt to the fort at the edge of 16th and 17th century and later to the mansion house. At the beginning of 19th century a remaining castle tower was destroyed. Nowadays the mansion house is not being used and needs reconstruction.
